We are recruiting for a Fleet Engineer to join a market-leading fleet operation, supporting a large and diverse HGV fleet across multiple customer sites and maintenance networks. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong individual who enjoys problem-solving, supplier management and driving engineering standards.

The Role

As Fleet Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective. Acting as a technical expert and trusted stakeholder, you will work closely with maintenance providers, customers and internal teams to improve fleet uptime, manage costs and deliver exceptional service standards. This is a varied position that combines technical expertise, commercial awareness and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop relationships with external maintenance providers.
  • Establish and monitor service level agreements to ensure quality, response times and fleet availability targets are achieved.
  • Conduct supplier reviews and challenge underperformance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Review repair quality, technical recommendations and recurring vehicle faults.
  • Investigate root causes of maintenance issues and implement preventative solutions.
  • Negotiate repair costs, warranty claims and goodwill contributions with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Support customers and internal stakeholders with technical guidance and engineering expertise.
  • Analyse maintenance data and performance trends to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Produce reports and recommendations to improve fleet efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Ensure all engineering decisions support vehicle compliance, safety and customer service delivery.
  • Contribute to ongoing operational improvement initiatives through the effective use of systems, data and technology.

About You

We are looking for a confident and commercially minded engineering professional who is comfortable balancing technical standards with business objectives. You will have:

  • Fully qualified HGV Technician status or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years' HGV engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance, diagnostics and repair standards.
  • Experience managing external suppliers, workshops or maintenance providers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding capabilities.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • The confidence to challenge decisions and influence outcomes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good analytical and reporting skills with experience using fleet management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
