Database Optimization & Security Associate (Contract 3 Months)

Your tasks

• Database Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize SQL queries to improve execution time and overall database performance.
• Indexing and Query Tuning: Review existing database indexes, identify inefficient queries, and recommend improvements to database structures and query execution plans.
• Database Maintenance: Perform routine database health checks, monitor performance, and troubleshoot slow queries and database-related issues.
• Security and Access Management: Review database permissions, user access, and security configurations to help protect sensitive data.
• Backup and Recovery: Assist with database backup procedures, recovery planning, and data integrity checks.
• Linux Environment Support: Perform basic database administration and troubleshooting in Linux environments.
• Laravel Optimization: Optimize Laravel Eloquent ORM usage, identify N+1 query problems, and improve database interactions within the application.
• Technical Documentation: Document findings, performance issues, optimization strategies, and implementation results.
• Progress Reporting: Provide regular updates on project milestones, completed tasks, identified issues, and recommendations.

Expected Outcomes By the end of the contract, the engineer is expected to deliver measurable improvements in database performance, identify and resolve key SQL bottlenecks, improve indexing and query efficiency, review relevant database security practices, and provide clear documentation of all findings and changes. Success will be evaluated against agreed project milestones and performance improvement targets.

Requirements

We are looking for a Database Optimization Engineer with 1–3 years of hands-on experience in MySQL/MariaDB database management and SQL query optimization. The role focuses on improving database performance, optimizing queries and indexes, maintaining database security, and supporting backup and recovery procedures. The ideal candidate should be comfortable analyzing database performance issues, identifying bottlenecks, and providing practical solutions to improve the efficiency and reliability of database operations. Experience with Laravel and Eloquent ORM optimization is a strong advantage, particularly for applications experiencing slow queries or high database workloads. This is a three-month, milestone-based contract with flexible working hours and a mostly remote working arrangement.

Requirements:

• 1–3 years of practical experience with MySQL and/or MariaDB.
• Good understanding of SQL query tuning, indexing strategies, and query execution plans.
• Familiarity with database security, user permissions, and access control.
• Basic knowledge of database backup, recovery, and Linux environments.
• Ability to investigate technical problems independently and document findings clearly.
• Experience with Laravel and Eloquent ORM optimization is a strong plus.
• Basic English communication skills are an advantage.
• Able to work independently, manage assigned milestones, and communicate progress effectively.
