Operations Manager

The Operations Manager leads the daily operations of the ship, and ensures compliance with organisation procedures and industry regulations to ensure the safe operation of ships. He/She is the primary communications link with the Ship's Master and is accountable for the monitoring of ship movements and cargo transfer operations. The Operations Manager assists with the planning of cargo intakes, liaises with regulatory bodies, maintains customer contact, and responds to problems that may arise in the course of executing shipping operations. He/She identifies bottlenecks to propose improvements to the organisation's workflow and assists with its subsequent implementation. The Operations Manager should have a sound knowledge of charter policy and the cargo that he/she is handling. He/She has excellent communication skills and is able to juggle the demands of multiple parties at any one time.
