CHINESE INTERPRETER

Role Description The Chinese Interpreter will provide accurate, real-time interpretation between Chinese and English to support communication in meetings, discussions, and day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include interpreting spoken conversations, translating written documents and emails, and assisting with communication between local and Chinese-speaking stakeholders. The role also involves preparing terminology lists, clarifying cultural nuances, and ensuring that messages are conveyed clearly and professionally. The interpreter will collaborate with various departments, attend onsite sessions, and maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Qualifications

Strong proficiency in spoken and written Chinese and English, with the ability to interpret accurately and fluently in both directions. Experience in consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation in professional or business settings. Ability to translate documents, presentations, and emails while preserving meaning, tone, and context. Excellent listening skills, attention to detail, and strong memory for handling extended conversations. Understanding of cultural nuances and etiquette relevant to Chinese and Nigerian/Western business environments. Professional communication skills, including clarity, diplomacy, and the ability to work with diverse teams. Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with reliability in an on-site, full-time schedule. Relevant certification or formal training in interpretation or translation is an advantage. Previous experience in corporate, educational, or government settings in an interpreter role is desirable. Commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and ongoing language development.
