Timber Worker

A timber worker is responsible for cutting, processing, transporting, and preparing timber or wood products for construction, manufacturing, or retail use.
Typical Duties
- Operate chainsaws, harvesters, loaders, and other forestry machinery
- Cut and trim trees according to safety and environmental guidelines
- Load, unload, and transport logs or timber products
- Inspect timber for quality and defects
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures
- Measure and sort wood products based on specifications
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Key Requirements
Education & Training
- Secondary school education is often preferred
- Vocational training in forestry, logging, or heavy equipment operation can be beneficial
Skills
- Physical stamina and strength
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely
- Knowledge of timber grading and forestry practices
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Attention to safety and detail
- Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance
Experience
- Previous experience in forestry, logging, construction
- Experience operating forestry equipment is highly valued
