Senior Residential Support Worker – Children’s Care

Are you an experienced Support Worker ready to take the next step in your career? We are looking for a Senior Residential Support Worker to join a children’s residential care home in Nottingham. This is an opportunity to take on greater responsibility within the home, providing high-quality care to children and young people while also assisting the wider team. You’ll play an important role in making sure each shift runs safely and effectively, while helping to create an environment where children feel supported, listened to and able to make positive progress.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will:

• Lead the care and welfare of children and young people, ensuring they are safe, supported and meaningfully engaged.
• Plan and manage shifts, ensuring each child’s Placement Plan is followed, and their educational needs are supported.
• Provide guidance and encouragement to Residential Support Workers, leading by example and promoting professional standards.
• Ensure staff follow policies, procedures, risk assessments, duty rotas and relevant safeguarding requirements.
• Communicate key information effectively through daily records, handovers and other relevant systems.
• Make sure incidents, accidents and restraint records are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
• Assisting staff through supervision, induction, training and ongoing professional development.
• Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding, practice or staff performance concerns, escalating serious issues to the Registered Manager.
• Contribute to a positive and professional working environment within the home.

What are we looking for in a Senior Residential Support Worker?

You’ll need to have:

• A minimum of 12 months’ experience of working with children and young people in a residential setting .
• Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Children and Young People’s Services .
• 1 years’ experience in a Senior or shift leading position is highly desirable.
• Level 5 qualification in Residential Leadership would also be an advantage.

We’re looking for someone who is confident taking responsibility, able to guide colleagues, and comfortable making decisions when leading a shift. You’ll also need to be caring, reliable and professional, with a strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of maintaining a safe and positive environment for children and young people.

The practical bits

This is a 40-hour per week role, with flexibility required to meet the needs of the children and the home. This may include evenings, weekends and sleep-in shifts , depending on the home and shift pattern. Occasional travel may also be required for training, meetings or service cover. You’ll be expected to attend relevant meetings and training and take an active role in your own professional development.
