Residential Support Worker – Children’s Care

We are looking for a Residential Support Worker to join a children’s residential care home in Nottingham, supporting children and young people to feel safe, valued and listened to, while helping them develop the skills and confidence they need for the future. You’ll ideally have experience of working with children or young people, and previous experience within a children’s residential home is desirable but not essential.

What will you be doing?

As a Residential Support Worker, you will:

• Provide safe, consistent, child-centred care and support the emotional, physical and psychological wellbeing of children and young people.
• Build positive relationships and help children develop confidence, independence, life skills and appropriate behaviour.
• Support individual care plans and encourage children to engage in education, training, leisure activities, trips and holidays.
• Promote equality, inclusion and respect for each child’s individual needs.
• Safeguard children and young people, following all relevant child protection procedures and reporting concerns appropriately.
• Work positively with colleagues, parents/carers, social workers, schools and other professionals to support each child.
• Contribute to the smooth running of the home, including cooking, cleaning, laundry and maintaining a positive living environment.
• Keep accurate records, use electronic systems appropriately, and support children who are unwell, including administering medication following the appropriate training and procedures.

What are we looking for in a Residential Support Worker?

You’ll ideally have experience of working with children or young people, but most importantly, you’ll need to be:

• Caring, patient and approachable, and able to build positive relationships with children and young people.
• Reliable, responsible and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• A good team player who communicates well with others.
• Respectful of individual needs, differences and backgrounds.
• Willing to learn and develop within the role.
• A willingness to work towards a relevant qualification in Children and Young People’s Services is desirable.

The practical bits

The role is 40 hours per week and will involve working flexibly to meet the needs of the children and the home. This may include evenings, weekends and sleep-in shifts . Occasional travel to other locations may also be required for training, meetings or service cover. Full training and ongoing development will be provided, including mandatory and role-specific training.
