Job Scope

The Student Guidance Officer supports the school in maintaining a safe, orderly, caring and conducive environment for students.

Works closely with School Leaders, Key Personnel, teachers and administrative staff to support student supervision, student management, behaviour guidance, school operations and other administrative functions.

The SGO is expected to build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and adopting a firm, fair and restorative approach when supporting students in managing their behaviour.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

A. Student Supervision and Management

  • Conduct area supervision and school walkabouts during stipulated hours to proactively monitor student behaviour and ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  • Support student supervision during arrival, dismissal, recess, transition periods, school programmes, activities and events where required.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to student behaviour or safety concerns and refer matters to the relevant Key Personnel or School Leaders where necessary.
  • Support the school in maintaining established student routines, expectations and standards of behaviour.

B. Supervision of Assigned Consequences

  • Supervise students serving assigned consequences, including detention, Reflective Learning sessions and other school-based consequences.
  • Ensure that such sessions are conducted in a structured, orderly and meaningful manner.
  • Guide students in completing assigned reflection activities or tasks as directed by the relevant Key Personnel.
  • Maintain appropriate records of student attendance and completion of assigned consequences where required.
  • Refer concerns or significant observations to the relevant Key Personnel for follow-up.

C. Support for Incident Management

The SGO may support Key Personnel in the management of student incidents by:

  • Conducting preliminary conversations with students to establish basic information relating to an incident.
  • Gathering and organising relevant information for the attention of Key Personnel.
  • Assisting with documentation and record-keeping relating to student incidents.
  • Supporting the supervision of students while investigations or follow-up actions are being carried out.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and handling student information professionally and appropriately.

The SGO's role in such situations is primarily supportive and fact-finding in nature. Decisions relating to formal disciplinary consequences or significant follow-up actions will remain with the relevant Key Personnel and/or School Leaders.

D. Student Engagement and Relationship Building

  • Establish positive and respectful relationships with students.
  • Model appropriate behaviour and communication.
  • Maintain clear and professional boundaries when interacting with students.
  • Adopt a calm, firm, fair and restorative approach when managing student behaviour.
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their actions, reflect on their choices and make appropriate behavioural improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and Key Personnel to provide consistent guidance and support to students.

School Programmes and Events

  • Assist in the planning, coordination and facilitation of school events, student development programmes and other school activities.
  • Support student supervision and management during school programmes and events.
  • Assist with logistical and operational preparations for school activities.
  • Prepare, organise and distribute materials required for programmes and activities.
  • Carry out other related duties necessary for the smooth and safe implementation of school programmes.

Administrative and Operational Support

Such duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and organisation of materials and resources.
  • Filing, documentation and maintenance of records.
  • Data entry and basic administrative work.
  • Preparation of documents or materials for school programmes and activities.
  • Logistical and operational support for school events.
  • General administrative assistance to support school operations.
  • Performing other reasonable administrative, operational or student management duties assigned by School Leaders or Key Personnel during stipulated working hours.

Duties During School Holidays and Non-Instructional Periods

May be assigned appropriate administrative, operational, programme-related or general school support duties within the scope of the appointment and stipulated working hours.

Reporting and Accountability

The Student Guidance Officer will work under the direction of the School Leaders and designated Key Personnel and will collaborate with teaching and administrative staff as required.

Specific deployment, supervision areas, student management duties, administrative responsibilities and programme support may be assigned or adjusted according to the school's operational requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum a Diploma/’A’ level / 5 ‘O’ levels pass including a pass in English, or equivalent

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for data entry and administrative tasks.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships while maintaining firm, fair, and patient boundaries with students.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a school team.

Experience

  • Experience or a strong interest in youth engagement, student management, and school administrative operations.
  • Prior experience working with children or youths in a school or community setting will be an advantage.

Contract Period: 14 Sept 2026 to 13 Sept 2027 (1 year)

Working Arrangement:

  • Mondays & Thursdays: 7.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Fridays: 7.00 a.m. to 3.15 p.m.
  • Break: 45 minutes

Required to report for work and undertake appropriate duties during school holidays and other periods when regular student-related duties are reduced.

Salary: $3,000 per month
