You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the U.S. Naval Academy Media Relations Branch of NAVAL ACADEMY.

Major duties

  • You will write press releases, media advisories, feature articles, fact sheets, and pitch letters.
  • You will Edit and adapt military and institutional policy into clear, public-friendly content.
  • You will analyze information for accuracy and suitability before publication.
  • You will pitch stories and distribute announcements to reporters and news organizations via phone, email, and press releases.
  • You will cultivate and sustain positive working relationships with regular press contacts.
  • You will ensure media materials are received and respond to reporter follow-up inquiries.
  • You will track daily and weekly print and digital publications for mentions of the Academy or key leadership topics.
  • You will select, prioritize, and assemble relevant press clips for leadership review.
  • You will answer incoming phone calls and questions from the general public regarding Academy events and policies.
  • You will proactively discover campus projects, events, and accomplishments suitable for public promotion.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Researching and drafting a variety of materials, including fact sheets, pitch letters, media advisories, news releases and feature stories designed for use in media campaigns; 2) Distributing and promoting information related to organizational programs and policies to a variety of publics; 3) Performing preliminary analysis of available information to determine accuracy and suitability for use in written materials.
