The Operations Department:
The Operations Department of the THW Management based in Bonn includes the five units Inland, Research Projects, Logistics, Fundamental Technology, Technical Descriptions / Procurement Control, as well as the Foreign Working Group, with a total of currently 183 employees.
Interesting tasks await you:
- Leading and managing the Operations Department, including ensuring nationwide operational readiness
- Responsibility for the successful execution of operations at home and abroad
- Participation in the top management level of the THW on strategic issues as well as the further development of the overall organization
- Defining a general strategy for the department in exchange with the agency management, taking into account external influencing factors such as civil protection, digitalization, demographic change, etc.
- Maintaining intensive exchange with representatives of other authorities, politics, and the public, as well as other organizations for hazard prevention and disaster relief, to integrate the THW into population protection

- have a completed university degree (Master, Magister, Diplom (University), State Examination)
- have achieved at least 13 points (total) in a legal State Examination
- as a civil servant belong to at least salary group A 15 or are comparably classified employees in the public service
You are a personality who:
- leads with enthusiasm and can demonstrate several years (at least two years) of experience in personnel responsibility
- possesses knowledge of the organization and the legal foundations of civil and disaster protection
- ideally has professional experience in population protection or hazard prevention
- combines target-group-oriented communication, decisiveness, flexibility, persuasiveness, and coordination skills, as well as a strong sense of responsibility and quality, and experience in conflict management
- possesses social, intercultural, as well as gender and diversity competence
- and has very good English skills (comparable to C 1)
- enjoys close and cooperative cooperation with THW operational forces and likes to show their affiliation with the THW by wearing service or operational clothing on certain occasions
- considers multi-day business trips, service, and availability outside of regular working hours in the civil protection organization THW, which consists of around 98% volunteers, to be a matter of course
