Support us as DevOps Biometrics (m/f/d) in the Digital Services and Innovation department of the Bundeskriminalamt.

We are responsible for the further development and operation of the biometric research systems at the BKA. In doing so, we are in close contact with the relevant specialist departments and represent our topics at the national and European levels as well as in international working groups. In addition to classic systems such as AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System), facial recognition, and DNA, we deal with the use of artificial intelligence in the field of image analysis.

Tasks

You are a member of a dynamic and evolving IT team. As DevOps Biometrics, you will find and optimize solutions for the secure and highly available provision of national and international police applications.

• You are responsible for the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and further development over the entire life cycle of your applications
• You plan and develop automated software tests for error detection and system optimization
• You ensure the reliable operation of existing processes and infrastructures, develop ideas for improvements, and implement them
• You take over case management in the context of the supervised processes, including product and customer management
• You accompany challenging projects based on the latest technologies and agile methods

Willingness for flexible working hours is required for the following reasons:

• Business trips, within the framework of meetings, conventions, and conferences - predictable
• Occasionally, approx. 1-2 times per year
• Length of business trips from 1 to 7 days
• Domestic/International
• Overtime due to measures for troubleshooting or installation measures
• On-call duty (depending on the supervised projects/products) - deployment on-call duty
• Regularly: 8-10 times per year
• Presence on special occasions in connection with meetings with national and international partners, (software) installation measures, supervision of external service providers

These framework conditions are dynamic. Changes in connection with the performance of tasks may require adjustments or shifts.

Our expectations (mandatory)

• Completed university degree (Diplom [FH] or Bachelor) in Informatik or a comparable completed university degree from the MINT field with an IT component

• You bring knowledge as a developer (Python, PHP, Java), preferably also in the field of biometric data processing.
• You possess an affinity for information and communication technology as well as a high degree of team orientation and commitment to performance.
• You possess the ability to familiarize yourself with criminal investigation requirements.
• You speak and write good English (Level B2 [GER]).
• You have very good oral and written expression, possess good cognitive and organizational skills, are resilient, as well as independent and flexible in task completion.

The selection process consists of a computer-aided psychodiagnostic test, the formal suitability test, and a structured interview. All test sections represent exclusion criteria. If a single test section is not passed, the selection process ends automatically. Exceptions to this rule exist for people with severe disabilities and those treated as such.
