Full-time Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science - BSBI Berlin (m/f/d) (Lecturer - Study Seminar)
The full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science is responsible for teaching academic modules in the areas of data analysis, machine learning, and related AI fields, designing and updating curricula, creating and grading assignments and exams, as well as participating in school activities as directed by the Faculty Dean and the Chief Academic Officer. The role includes supervising students, providing individual tutoring to improve academic performance, monitoring progress, and developing creative teaching materials to support learning in AI and data analysis.
Your tasks:
- Manage, supervise, and grade all assignments and examination papers of all students in all assigned classes.
- Update a curriculum or curricula if necessary.
- Create assignment descriptions and examination materials.
- Provide students with feedback using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence.
- Offer one-on-one tutoring or small groups of students as needed to improve academic performance and prepare for exams.
- Evaluate student progress during tutoring sessions.
- Plan tutoring appointments with students.
- Organize the tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
- Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices or learn new tutoring techniques.
- Maintain records of assessment results, progress, feedback, or student academic performance to ensure the confidentiality of all records.
- Prepare lesson plans or learning modules for tutoring sessions according to the needs and goals of the program.
- Creatively design teaching materials to maximize the student experience.
- Develop content, both written and recorded, as directed by the Faculty Dean and the Chief Academic Officer.
- Research or recommend textbooks, software, equipment, or other learning materials to complement tutoring.
- Communicate student progress to students in written progress reports, in person, by telephone, via email, and/or video conference.
- Identify, develop, or implement intervention strategies, tutoring plans, or Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Perform daily tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork related to teaching activities.
- Give students feedback on their progress.
Your responsibilities
- Teach assigned academic modules according to the curriculum.
- Modify, design, and develop a new curriculum for a module if necessary.
- Provide counseling and mentoring for students.
- Convey learning skills relevant to programs and exam strategies.
- Communicate effectively with students and convey a passion for learning.
- Play a proactive role in promoting the school.
- Provide support to all students through tutors in the development of their assignments.
- Monitor student performance or support students in academic environments, such as classrooms, labs, or data centers.
- Supervise a number of dissertations per academic year (if required).
- Participate in all faculty activities as required by the Faculty Dean and the Chief Academic Officer.
Your profile
- Doctorate with sound theoretical and practical knowledge in at least one of the following areas: (i) data analysis and visualization, (ii) Big Data Analytics, (iii) Machine Learning, (iv) Deep Learning, (v) Computer Vision, (vi) Chatbot systems, (vii) robotics and automation systems.
- Previous teaching experience in higher education at the university level.
- Strong knowledge of Python programming.
- Very good knowledge of the Windows operating system, the MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and Microsoft Teams.
- Scientific publications in a related discipline.
- Fluent English in speaking and writing (C2 level).
- Knowledge of educational platforms (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
- Sound knowledge of study regulations and ordinances.
- Very good organizational and communication skills.
- High social competence and assertiveness.
- Ability to maintain an overview even under high workloads.
- Entrepreneurial and economic way of thinking and working.
- Resilient and flexible.
- Motivated for further academic and professional development.
