Head of Finance Charity supporting communities across the North | [Leeds / hybrid] | £55,000 | Permanent

Want to lead a finance function where the numbers make a real difference to people's lives? We're working with a well-established charity that supports communities across the North of England. They're looking for a Head of Finance to lead their finance team and deputise for the Chief Finance Officer. You'll be responsible for the whole finance function. That covers financial and management accounting, budgeting and forecasting, treasury, transactional finance, systems and housing rents. As part of the senior management team, you'll help shape the organisation's culture and direction, not just report on it.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the annual budget and medium-term financial plan, giving budget holders both support and challenge
  • Producing accurate monthly group and entity management accounts, with commentary that helps people make decisions
  • Keeping a strong financial control framework in place and making sure any weaknesses get fixed quickly
  • Leading year end, the external audit and the group and subsidiary statutory accounts
  • Overseeing treasury, including weekly cash-flow forecasting
  • Leading the financial governance of housing rents and service charges, including annual rent setting, compliance and assurance
  • Reviewing and signing off tenders and grant applications
  • Driving improvements to finance systems, data quality and reporting automation
  • Leading and developing a high-performing team, with accountability and continuous improvement at its heart

What you'll bring

  • A full accountancy qualification and experience in a senior finance role
  • Experience of leading a large financial accounting function with a strong focus on control
  • Hands-on experience of year end, consolidation, group statutory accounts and external audit
  • Strong technical knowledge of FRS 102 and SORP
  • Proven line management experience and real leadership presence
  • The ability to explain complex financial information clearly to people who aren't accountants
  • A genuine commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism
  • A UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work

This charity says openly they value potential. So if you don't tick every desirable box, please don't rule yourself out - give me a call for a chat first.

What's in it for you

  • Salary of £55,000
  • Hybrid working - 2 days on site
  • 33 days of annual leave (rising to 38 days with service), which includes bank holidays and the option to buy up to 5 additional days per year
