• Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo.
• Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews.
• Ensure safety and comfort of passengers.
• Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts.
• Direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo.
• Maintain vessel's navigational instruments and equipment.
• Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways.
• Enforce regulations in Canadian waters.
• Record vessel's progress, weather and sea conditions in ship's log.

Requirements

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses

• Transport Canada Certificate of Competency.
• Master Mariner Certificate.

Vessel experience

• Passenger ship.
• Ferry.
