Lab and Facility Manager, Brisbane, CA

We are seeking a highly self-motivated and goal-oriented Lab and Facility Manager to oversee day-to-day operations across our chemistry and biology laboratories, office spaces, and overall facility. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This role will help our team work efficiently by organizing the laboratories, procuring supplies, maintaining equipment, and coordinating facilities and safety needs. The position also oversees day-to-day office operations, including IT support, office equipment, and purchasing. The role is focused approximately 70% on lab functions and 30% on office functions. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team player with hands-on experience managing laboratories in a biotech company. The final title will reflect relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Lab (approximately 70%)

  • Organize and maintain chemistry and biology laboratory spaces, shared work areas, and storage to support safe, efficient daily operations.
  • Manage purchasing and procurement of laboratory supplies, consumables, and services; coordinate orders with scientists and vendors.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, monitor stock levels, and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving of laboratory materials and supplies, including required documentation.
  • Coordinate routine equipment maintenance, service visits, repairs, and related records.
  • Organize laboratory operations data and documentation so scientists can readily access current information.
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, serving as the main point of contact for communication with suppliers and service providers.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the building management team on facilities and operations matters.
  • Act as the primary lab safety officer, guiding the team on laboratory safety needs and following through on safety requirements in coordination with external EHS consultants.
  • Manage hazardous and biohazardous waste programs, including proper segregation, labeling, storage, pickup scheduling, and documentation.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with San Mateo County and City of Brisbane requirements, including permits, registrations, and required reporting.
  • Coordinate and prepare for internal and external inspections and audits, and follow through on any corrective actions.

Office (approximately 30%)

  • Order and maintain office supplies.
  • Process invoices and requisitions and coordinate with the appropriate internal teams.
  • Coordinate day-to-day IT support with external service providers, including employee onboarding/offboarding and basic troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot office devices, including AV systems, laptops, and printers.
  • Maintain a clean, presentable office environment and manage day-to-day office operational needs.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and 3–5 years of relevant experience managing or operating laboratories in a biotech company.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage day-to-day biotech laboratory operations and support scientists across chemistry and biology functions.
  • Experience with purchasing, inventory, shipping, equipment service coordination, and facilities or safety vendors.
  • Experience managing hazardous and biohazardous waste and working with local regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with lab safety programs and basic IT/AV support.
  • DOT hazardous materials shipping certification preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and comfort balancing hands-on lab needs with office priorities.
  • Work authorization in the US is required.
