Join Our Leadership Team Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is seeking a passionate, experienced, and dynamic Bar Manager to lead the beverage operations of both Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar and Gerard Lounge, located within the Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver.

Known for its exceptional cuisine, award-winning wine program, and sophisticated approach to hospitality, Boulevard has established itself as one of Vancouver's premier dining destinations. Gerard Lounge offers a distinct yet complementary experience, combining the warmth of a classic hotel lounge with polished, attentive service.

Your tasks

Reporting to the General Manager, the Bar Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and guest experience of the bar programs at both Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar and Gerard Lounge.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a strong presence on the floor, a commitment to exceptional service, and the ability to balance creative beverage development with sound business management.

Beverage Program & Guest Experience

• Oversee the cocktail, spirits, beer, and non-alcoholic beverage programs across both venues, ensuring each reflects its distinct identity and clientele.
• Develop innovative, seasonal cocktail offerings while maintaining the consistency and quality of established classics.
• Work collaboratively with the restaurant's wine leadership to ensure a cohesive and exceptional beverage experience.
• Maintain the highest standards of beverage preparation, presentation, and service.
• Foster a welcoming, engaging atmosphere and build lasting relationships with guests.
• Remain actively involved in daily service, leading by example and supporting the team during peak periods.

Leadership & Team Development

• Recruit, train, coach, and mentor a high-performing team of bartenders and bar support staff.
• Establish clear service standards, expectations, and accountability across both venues.
• Cultivate a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.
• Lead ongoing beverage education, product knowledge sessions, and service training.
• Collaborate with the broader restaurant leadership team to deliver a seamless guest experience.

Operations & Financial Performance

• Manage beverage inventory, purchasing, supplier relationships, and cost controls.
• Monitor beverage costs, labour productivity, sales performance, and profitability.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and the achievement of financial targets.
• Develop strategies to drive beverage revenue while maintaining quality and guest satisfaction.
• Oversee bar scheduling, operational readiness, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable liquor regulations, health and safety requirements, and company policies.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and overall performance.

Requirements

We are looking for a leader who brings creativity, operational discipline, and a genuine passion for hospitality to both venues. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable crafting an exceptional cocktail program, developing a talented team, and managing the financial performance of a busy bar operation.

• Previous experience in a Bar Manager, Assistant Bar Manager, or senior bar leadership position within a premium restaurant, hotel, or cocktail-focused establishment.
• Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, premium spirits, beer, and beverage trends.
• Demonstrated experience managing beverage costs, inventory, purchasing, and operational budgets.
• A proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop hospitality professionals.
• Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
