The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies is currently seeking a 1 Postgraduate Research Associate

Extent of employment: 30 hours per week

Duration of employment: 1st of November 2026, limited to 31st of October 2027 (with the option of a temporary extension)

Workplace: 1190 Vienna, Muthgasse

Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.832,10 (payable 14 times per year)

Responsibilities

  • Cell culture technique - working und er sterile conditions with primary cells and cell lines following standard operation procedures (SOPs)
  • Isolation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from different donor tissue sources
  • Stem cell characterization, optimization of cultivation conditions for the expansion and differentiation
  • Development of strategies for cultivation und er physiological conditions including 3D cultures
  • Independent planning and execution of experiments
  • Execution of specific analyses and evaluation of experimental findings
  • Preparation of protocols and reports
  • Preparation of results for presentations/conferences (posters, lectures) and publications, support in the preparation of publications and teaching materials
  • Active support of lab management (media preparation, quality check of lab materials, orders/deliveries/storage and handling of materials, responsibility on equipment maintenance, and communication with internal departments of BOKU for administrative processes)
  • Supervision/guidance of bachelor and master students and support in practical courses

Required skills and qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Life Science, Biomedical Engineering or other equivalent university degree
  • Language skills: German (preferably at least C1 or higher) and English (minimum B2)
  • Independent working
  • Experience with sterile working in cell culture Lab (preferably antibiotic free culture/primary cells incl. 3D formats)

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Profound knowledge in molecular biology and microbiology and experience with relevant methods and analyses
  • Proven prior experience in lab management
  • Team spirit/interest in interdisciplinary and international environment
  • Willingness and active support in preparation/establishment/optimization of new protocols/SOP's/reports
  • Willingness to guide/supervise students, support in seminars/lecture preparation/practical courses
