About the company

Blue Silo builds and runs mission-critical systems for defence, government and industrial clients in Singapore. Our systems run on client premises, often in secure, air-gapped sites, as well as in the cloud. When something breaks, our clients need someone who can walk in, find the fault and fix it.

Your tasks

You are our engineer on the ground. You install, run and fix the servers, networks, cameras and RFID readers our software runs on, at client sites across Singapore, and you keep our cloud environments healthy too. Most of your time is on site and in the lab, hands-on with real equipment, with our development team behind you for anything deep in the code.

  • Install, commission and maintain Linux and Windows servers, VMware or Hyper-V hosts, switches and firewalls at client premises, including secure sites with no internet access
  • Set up and troubleshoot IP cameras, NVRs, video management systems and RFID readers and antennas
  • Patch and update systems offline using approved media and local repositories
  • Run and verify backup and recovery jobs, e.g. Veeam
  • Keep site records accurate: configurations, asset lists, network diagrams and runbooks

Incidents

  • Be the first responder for production issues on your assigned client systems
  • Reach the client site within 8 hours for critical incidents
  • Take part in an on-call rotation, about 1 week in every XXXX
  • Find the root cause, fix it, and write up what happened and how we stop it recurring
  • Bring in our developers, vendors or integrators when needed

Cloud and Automation

  • Deploy and look after our applications on AWS, Azure or GCP across development, staging and production
  • Monitor systems with Zabbix or similar and act on alerts before clients notice
  • Grow into CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform and Ansible, with support from the team

Requirements

If you are a system engineer, infrastructure engineer or field service engineer who enjoys hardware and wants to grow into DevOps and cloud, this role is for you. You will pick up the cloud side on the job.

  • At least 2 years hands-on with servers and networks as a system engineer, infrastructure engineer, field service engineer, IT support engineer, NOC engineer or similar
  • Solid Linux and Windows Server administration
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls and switch configuration
  • Methodical troubleshooting across both hardware and software
  • Comfortable working on client premises, and able to reach a site within 8 hours for critical incidents, including after hours during your on-call week
  • Able to obtain security clearance for defence and government projects. XXXX nationality line if required
  • Clear written and spoken English with clients, vendors and developers
  • CCTV, IP camera, NVR or VMS experience
  • RFID or asset-tracking hardware experience
  • Any cloud platform, Docker, Terraform, Ansible or Kubernetes
  • Zabbix, Veeam or similar monitoring and backup tools
  • Defence, government, OT or industrial environments, including NS vocations in signals, C4 or IT
  • Diploma or degree in Computer Engineering, IT or a related field; certifications such as CCNA, Linux, AWS, Azure or ITIL
  • Driving licence and own transport

What we offer

  • Real ownership of the sites you support, with an experienced development team backing you
  • Hands-on work across secure on-premises systems and modern cloud
