JOB OVERVIEW
A rewarding opportunity is available for a machining professional to share practical expertise as the Engineering Apprentice Trainer while shaping future engineering talent. Based in an on-site training workshop, the Engineering Apprentice Trainer develops apprentices in manual and CNC machining, programming and professional shop floor behaviours, while supporting progress into supervised machine shop work. Working closely with managers and the training provider, the Engineering Apprentice Trainer supports progress reviews, mentoring and recruitment while promoting engineering careers through visits, placements and careers events.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Engineering Apprentice Trainer include:
- Practical Workshop Supervision: Supervise apprentices using manual and CNC lathes and milling machines, hand tools and inspection equipment
- Machining Instruction: Teach manual machining, online and offline programming, basic setting principles, drawing interpretation, tolerances, GD&T, tooling selection, bench work and measurement
- Training Task Development: Develop practical tasks and organise materials and instructions for apprentices producing in-house components, including workholding
- Production Work Oversight: Oversee apprentices working on production components
- Apprentice Recruitment Support: Support senior managers with apprentice recruitment and selection
- Progress Review and Liaison: Review training plans and progress with college or training-provider assessors and share apprentice updates
- Performance and Mentoring Support: Support senior colleagues with apprentice performance matters, mentor apprentices and encourage mentoring by others
- Engineering Careers Outreach: Host school, college, university and other group visits, attend careers events, host work experience placements and support apprentices as engineering ambassadors
- Management System Compliance: Deliver training in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems and processes
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Excellent knowledge of manual and CNC machining and mechanical engineering principles
- Understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T and manufacturing documentation
- Understanding of manual measurement equipment
- Skilled in programming and CAD/CAM
- Knowledge of tooling, workholding and cutting technology
- Good communication skills, with an approachable, positive style and the ability to give constructive feedback
DESIRABLE
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
- Previous experience training others
