Product Development Engineer - POD

Autonomous is a US company that designs and manufactures its own hardware and sells it in many countries around the world. We have offices in New York, San Francisco, Shenzhen and Saigon. The Saigon office is where our engineering team designs and develops products.

ABOUT POD

POD is different from the rest of what we make. Most of our products sit on a desk. POD is a small building that sits in a customer's backyard and has to handle sun, rain and winter for years. It's sold in the US as a private office, and people also use it as a studio, a home gym or a guest room. Each POD is made in a factory as panels and put together at the customer's home, with insulation, large glass walls and power already built in. There are three models today: MetroPod, WorkPod and StudioPod.

WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS

This role is for one person to own POD from drawing to factory, make each version stronger, cheaper and easier to install than the last, and bring out new models.

WHAT YOU OWN

All engineering on POD, from the drawings and the cost to the quality of every unit that leaves the factory. The next POD model will start from your design.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own POD engineering from concept and design through to production.
• Build 3D models and produce 2D drawings for the factory.
• Estimate production cost from the drawings: materials, labor and equipment.
• Find ways to make POD stronger, cheaper and easier to install, then plan and carry them out.
• Go to the factory when needed to work with the production team and solve technical issues on site.
• Follow the prefab housing market and propose the direction for new POD models.

REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in product design and manufacturing. Experience leading a team or project is a plus.
• You have taken a product from drawings to mass production. A background in prefab buildings, pre-engineered steel buildings or large furniture is preferred.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Able to estimate and analyze product cost.
• Experience working directly with factories.
• Willing to travel, and able to read English technical documents well.
• You use AI tools in your daily work.
