Secondary School History Specialist
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging History lessons aligned with Singapore MOE secondary syllabus.
- Assess students’ learning needs and customise lesson plans to strengthen content knowledge and examination skills.
- Teach significant historical events, developments, personalities, and turning points within their respective contexts.
- Help students understand chronology, cause and effect, change and continuity, and the significance of historical developments.
- Develop students’ ability to interpret sources, evaluate reliability and utility, compare perspectives, and identify purpose.
- Guide students in answering source-based, structured, and essay questions with relevant evidence and clear arguments.
- Encourage students to examine different historical interpretations and form balanced, evidence-based conclusions.
- Mark assignments, monitor student progress, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Prepare students for school assessments and national examinations.
- Develop students’ historical awareness, critical thinking, analytical writing, and reasoning skills.
- Create a positive, engaging, and disciplined learning environment.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding students’ academic progress.
- Develop teaching resources, timelines, source materials, case studies, and examination-practice activities.

Requirements
- GCE A-Level, Diploma, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Education, History, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
- Good command of spoken and written English.
- Strong historical knowledge and proficiency in source analysis and essay writing.
- Familiarity with the Singapore MOE Secondary History syllabus and assessment requirements.
- Ability to explain complex historical developments clearly and objectively.
- Passion for teaching and supporting secondary school students.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
- Responsible, patient, enthusiastic, and committed to student success.
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience is an advantage but not required.
