Bookkeeper
About the company
Astute Recruitment is working with a small, established business in the Nottingham area to recruit an experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping, maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the smooth running of a business.
Your tasks
Working closely with the business owner, you will manage a range of finance responsibilities, from reconciliations and invoice processing through to credit control, VAT and financial reporting. There will also be opportunities to improve existing processes and make the day-to-day finance function more efficient. The role offers flexibility across three weekdays, with the initial three-month contract offering potential for extension or a longer-term opportunity.
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping using Sage Cloud and Xero.
- Maintain accurate nominal ledger coding and process journal entries.
- Complete bank, card and relevant control account reconciliations.
- Process sales and purchase invoices, allocate customer receipts and record supplier payments.
- Check supplier invoices, pricing discrepancies, credit notes and additional charges.
- Support VAT returns, including appropriate VAT treatments and domestic reverse-charge requirements.
- Monitor aged debt, issue customer statements and chase overdue payments.
- Reconcile supplier statements and assist with payment-run preparation.
- Prepare financial information, including profit and loss figures, aged balances, cash-flow information and management reports.
- Support payroll administration, staff expenses and year-end preparation where required.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes, reporting and financial controls.
Requirements
We are looking for someone with strong practical bookkeeping experience who can work independently and manage their workload with accuracy and confidence.
You will ideally have
- Proven hands-on bookkeeping experience.
- Practical experience using both Sage Cloud and Xero.
- A good understanding of nominal ledger coding, journals and bank reconciliations.
- Experience processing invoices and managing customer and supplier accounts.
- Knowledge of VAT, including the ability to identify relevant VAT treatments.
- Confident Microsoft Excel skills and good general IT ability.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation and communication skills.
