Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistant - Cannock
Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistant - Class-Based Location: Cannock
About the opportunity
Aspire People is recruiting a Class-Based Teaching Assistant to work at Primary School in Cannock, supporting pupils across Key Stage 2. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in the day-to-day life of a primary classroom and understands the importance of getting the basics right. From helping pupils work through a tricky maths question to encouraging them to put their ideas into writing, you will help make lessons more accessible and ensure pupils get the support they need to keep progressing. The position is class-based, so you will work alongside the class teacher throughout the school day rather than being assigned to one individual pupil. You will need to be comfortable supporting different abilities, responding to the demands of each lesson and stepping in where additional help is needed.
What you will be doing
- Assist the class teacher during lessons, helping activities run smoothly and pupils understand what is expected of them.
- Work with pupils who need extra help with reading, writing, maths and other areas of the KS2 curriculum.
- Provide additional explanations and break down instructions for pupils who find certain tasks difficult.
- Support small groups with revision, reinforcement activities and opportunities to practise newly learned skills.
- Encourage pupils to contribute to class discussions, share ideas and approach their work with confidence.
- Help pupils stay organised, manage their workload and complete tasks within the time available.
- Recognise when pupils are struggling and communicate concerns or observations to the class teacher.
- Assist with preparing worksheets, setting up activities and organising classroom resources.
- Help maintain classroom expectations, encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour and learning.
- Support pupils during everyday school routines and contribute to a positive, productive learning environment.
What we are looking for
We are interested in hearing from candidates who are enthusiastic about primary education and understand that effective classroom support involves more than simply helping pupils complete their work. You should be able to communicate clearly, use your initiative and adapt your approach depending on the task and the pupil. Previous experience in a primary school would be beneficial, particularly within KS2, although a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to helping children learn are equally important. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one through Aspire People.
Why apply?
This is a good opportunity to build on your classroom experience in a mainstream primary setting, working with a class teacher and supporting pupils at an important stage of their education. If you enjoy helping children overcome learning difficulties, celebrating their progress and making a practical contribution to lessons, this could be a suitable next step.
