End-of-studies Internship - Electrical Systems and Networks: Electrical network simulations for the connection of a PV or BESS plant
Who are we? We are an engineering group, a major player in the fields of building, water, energy, industry, and mobility. 100% owned by our employees, we are united by a single passion: practicing a profession that combines the art of designing with ingenuity and the art of realizing with commitment. Our 11,000 employees, in more than 40 countries, create solutions every day for a positive life through our strategic challenges for the planet and humanity. Our teams are human-sized, prioritizing proximity, daily exchanges, and the sharing of experience. To facilitate reading, inclusive writing is not used in the body of this announcement; terms used in the masculine refer to women, men, and non-binary people alike.
INTERNSHIP SUBJECT: Architecture and design criteria for HTA and HTB EnR plants Your missions Mission No. 1 – Electrical network simulations for the connection of PV or battery plants including black start study (approximately 2.5 months): For many years, our team has been conducting connection studies for energy production plants. With the evolving requirements of network operators, we are increasingly required to verify the compliance of plants with the grid code of the relevant country (France, Senegal, others...), which involves analyzing the dynamic behavior of the plant under specific conditions. One of the objectives of the internship is to contribute to the standardization of these compliance studies in order to consolidate the team's technical repository. These simulations will be carried out under POWERFACTORY. The intern will be able to rely on their tutor and several experts within the team. Furthermore, the rise of photovoltaics has led to the increasing deployment of battery storage plants. These installations contribute to the stabilization of the electrical network and are used in the event of a network black-out to re-energize part of the network. This functionality, called black start, requires conducting advanced electrical studies to demonstrate the plant's ability to re-energize the network. This type of electrical simulation will be studied during the internship. The internship therefore consists of continuing the development of modeling under POWERFACTORY, notably: Modeling of PV and BESS plants under POWERFACTORY Dynamic simulations of the behavior of PV and BESS plants Grid code compliance study Black start study Preparation of RTE sheets for the connection of PV and BESS plants to the RTE network Mission No. 2 – Design of HTB substations (approximately 1.5 months): The team welcomed an intern in 2026 on the connection of EnR plants to the HTB transmission network. This internship allowed us to consolidate our skills and create reference layout plans and electrical diagrams for our international projects. We wish to continue this work and deepen the design of HTB substations. One of the missions of this internship consists of working around the following axes: Continue work on the layout plans of HTB equipment Inventory and description of various HTB equipment in the case of a GIS substation Updating technical specifications for HTA equipment
Mission No. 3: Support for studies: discovery of the daily life of an electrical systems and networks design engineer (approximately 2 months) You will occasionally be mobilized by project managers to contribute to the realization of missions for our clients, such as feasibility studies, electrical simulations, the creation of layout plans or single-line diagrams. These various missions will mainly concern international projects. Your team You are joining the Electrical Systems and Networks (SRE) team, composed of about ten engineers based mainly in Echirolles. The team operates internationally, notably in Africa and Asia, on various projects such as: Transmission & Distribution (T&D): design of HTB networks, impact studies for photovoltaic, storage, hydroelectric, and thermal plants, drafting of technical files and tenders, construction monitoring and commissioning, feasibility studies for transmission lines and HT substations, deployment of smart grids. Energy Master Plan: development of energy master plans, analysis of electrical demand and energy potential, planning of transmission/distribution networks at lower cost, economic and institutional studies, integration of EnR, network studies (load flow, voltage, short-circuit, dynamic stability), analysis of storage needs. Specific electrical network studies: load flow, contingency studies, short-circuit calculations, selectivity, dynamic stability, switching studies (transformer/line), harmonics analysis, restart scenarios (blackstart). Our team works on projects of various sizes, ranging from a few thousand euros to several million euros, with durations that can extend from a few weeks to several years, such as the connection of a PV+BESS plant of several dozen MW in Africa or the interconnection of electrical networks between Mali and Mauritania. It brings together engineers with complementary profiles and experiences, from young graduates to project managers and experts with more than 20 years of experience.
Your assets You are preparing specialized training in Electrical or Energy Engineering. Behavioral skills: Autonomy, taking initiative, rigor, organization, curiosity about the energy profession, and the ability to convey technical knowledge to non-expert people. Professional skills: Basic knowledge of HTA and HTB. A basic understanding of photovoltaic plants and battery electricity storage will be a plus. IT skills: You master office applications (Office pack) Knowledge of a CAD software will be a plus (Autocad) Knowledge of PowerFactory will be a plus Language skills: Professional proficiency in English is indispensable; mastery of other languages will be a plus.
