About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, Georgia, and Birmingham, Alabama, just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Major duties

  • Utilizes Adobe Photoshop to incorporate illustrations into technical publications/manuals.
  • Serves as the final reviewer for all manuscripts prepared within the organization.
  • Obtains technical data from existing publication to produce written material and illustrations for publication.
  • Ensures material is technically accurate and in agreement with drawings and/or other reference data.
  • Describes all necessary technical aspects of various armaments of equipment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing technical publications using established procedures; acquiring technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject matter experts, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).OREducation: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that included a total of 15 semester hours in Communications or a related field, and at least one course above the introductory level in or related toTechnical Communications. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
