About the Position: Serves as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. The highest level of non-supervisory work-led is Production Machinery Mechanic. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.

Major duties

  • Lead and direct a team in the maintenance and repair of production machinery.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and modify complex industrial electromechanical systems.
  • Plan work sequences, test equipment, and make precise adjustments to ensure proper equipment function.
  • Manage hazardous materials and waste in accordance with operating guidelines and safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of an Production Machinery Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common production machinery repair, electromechanical installation, and team lead duties. I can troubleshoot complex mechanical systems, apply technical alignment practices, and direct work sequences. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally carry objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Incumbent is required to push pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent is exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises and to noise and vibration from machines. Occasionally work is performed from ladders and stagings exposing the repairers to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes and glasses are used. Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are hand led/processed within operating guidelines. Guidance for proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Ensures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous materials waste, are properly palletized and secured for movement. Checks to insure that containers are sealed and reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor on any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
