AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC
About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.
Major duties
- Diagnose mechanical failures in gasoline, diesel, or multi fuel engines.
- Use diagnostic tools to identify faults in mechanical systems.
- Properly select mechanic trade tools for disassembly and repair.
- Interpret manufacturer specifications and technical manuals.
- Use compression testers and motor analyzers.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common mechanic duties such as removing and replacing basic components (brake shoes, belts, hoses, filters, batteries), performing limited functional checks, conducting fluid changes, and following simple troubleshooting steps. I work under normal supervision and tasks are checked during progress and upon completion - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work assignments involve bench work, standing sitting, and sometimes bending, and occasional work in cramped and awkward positions while working on vehicles. Work and performed frequently requires the lifting of items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Work outside is normally done in good weather, however emergency situations sometimes require out-side assignment during inclement weather. Work in shop is performed in building that is moderately heated, lighted and ventilated. The floor is of concrete and causes fatigue from long periods of standing. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, grease, odor and fumes of vehicle motors and is subject to cuts and abrasions from use of tools and equipment and to falls from workstand.
