About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Major duties

  • Determine work procedures, selects proper tools, lays out work andoperates a variety of machines.
  • Make initial serviceability determination regarding a full variety of components and parts for gasoline, multi-fuel and diesel engines
  • Dimensional tolerances for machining operations and serviceability determinations.
  • Work with a variety of metals such as steel, cast iron, brass, copper and aluminum.
  • Use common tools of the trade such as precision gauges, test stands, and fixtures to insure dimensional tolerances.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Automotive Machinist without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include operating crankshaft grinders for dimensional restoration, resurfacing engine blocks for cylinder sleeving, and polishing engine camshafts for tolerance compliance. I can extract tolerance limits from technical manuals. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Use Hand Tools for Machine Shop Ability to Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Physical Effort: Incumbent must work in standing, stooping bending and reaching positions. Frequently handles items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside in areas that are usually noisy and dirty, and where there is a constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; danger to fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines.
