About the Position: Serves as Director of Emergency Services who is responsible manager for law enforcement, physical security and fire protection/prevention that encompasses a variety of sensitive and critical garrison wide programs directly affecting the life, health, and safety of all garrison employees, students, family members, retirees, and visitors. Major duties

  • Perform managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations.
  • Manage the efficient and effective coordination and accomplishment of all aspects of Emergency Services functions.
  • Initiate and direct surveys, inspections, and studies to analyze and improve crime and fire prevention programs.
  • Exercise full supervisory responsibility of firefighting and law enforcement activities.
  • Represent the garrison for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention matters to the surrounding civilian communities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Developing guidelines for application to an installation emergency services program; 2) Providing law enforcement and fire protection/prevention functions and services such as physical security, access control, law enforcement, crime prevention, anti-terrorism/force protection, and fire protection/prevention; 3) Coordinate with other installation elements and other agencies in the preparation of emergency plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-12. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). If you are currently stationed in the overseas area, all of your overseas time will be credited toward your current overseas tour end date. Your overseas time served will not reset upon accepting this assignment. If you have returned from OCONUS within the past 2 years or less, your time previously served in the OCONUS area will be credited to your 5 year overseas rotation upon accepting this assignment.
