Executive Director – Private Wealth & Fund Management
A dual leadership role combining private-client coverage, portfolio management and regulated business oversight
Armour Asset Management is a Singapore-based, MAS-licensed fund management company serving high-net-worth individuals and ultra-high-net-worth families, primarily across Asia.
Through our external asset management and fund management businesses, we provide independent, bespoke investment solutions tailored to each client’s objectives, risk profile and liquidity requirements. Our open-architecture platform draws on the capabilities of established banking partners, giving clients access to a broad range of investment opportunities, institutional services and competitive pricing.
Led by experienced professionals from private banking, asset management and investment research, Armour combines the agility and high-touch service of a boutique firm with disciplined investment processes and strong regulatory governance.
The opportunity
Armour is seeking a senior private banker, relationship manager or wealth-management professional who also possesses substantial portfolio-management and managerial experience.
The successful candidate will undertake a dual mandate:
- Develop and manage relationships with HNW and UHNW clients and grow the firm’s private-wealth franchise; and
- Contribute to the management and oversight of the firm’s investment activities, governance and regulated fund-management business.
The successful candidate is intended to be considered for appointment as an Executive Director of Armour Asset Management. Any such appointment will be subject to the candidate satisfying the company’s assessment and due-diligence requirements, applicable corporate approvals, MAS approval and all relevant fit-and-proper and regulatory requirements.
This is a substantive executive-management position involving active participation in the company’s business, investment activities and governance. It is not a nominal or non-executive directorship.
Key responsibilities
Private-client coverage and business development
- Build, manage and deepen long-term relationships with HNW and UHNW individuals, families and their professional advisers.
- Originate suitable new client relationships through an established professional network, referrals and strategic partnerships.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of each client’s investment objectives, risk appetite, liquidity requirements and broader family-wealth considerations.
- Act as a trusted adviser by providing portfolio reviews, investment perspectives and appropriate wealth-management solutions.
- Grow assets under management and generate sustainable revenue while maintaining high standards of client suitability and risk management.
- Represent Armour professionally at client meetings, industry events and networking platforms.
Portfolio management and investment oversight
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of investment strategies across relevant asset classes.
- Oversee portfolio construction, asset allocation, security or fund selection, risk management and performance monitoring.
- Ensure portfolios remain consistent with their investment mandates, risk limits, liquidity requirements and client objectives.
- Participate actively in investment committee discussions and provide well-supported investment recommendations.
- Review portfolio exposures, performance attribution and investment risks, and initiate appropriate action where required.
- Provide managerial or supervisory oversight of portfolio-management activities and investment professionals, where applicable.
- Ensure that investment decisions and processes are properly documented and independently supportable.
Executive management and business leadership
- Participate actively in the day-to-day management and strategic development of the company.
- Contribute to business planning, resource allocation, product development and the growth of the firm’s external asset management and fund management businesses.
- Work with fellow directors and senior management to establish clear business, investment and risk-management priorities.
- Promote effective collaboration between the client-facing, investment, trading, operations, compliance and risk functions.
- Provide leadership, guidance and professional development to members of the investment and relationship-management teams.
- Ensure that the company maintains appropriate systems, controls, resources and governance arrangements for its regulated activities.
- Discharge all statutory, fiduciary and regulatory duties associated with serving as a director of a CMS-licensed fund management company.
Regulatory, risk and governance responsibilities
- Support the company’s continuing compliance with the Securities and Futures Act, applicable MAS regulations, notices, guidelines and licensing conditions.
- Maintain effective oversight of KYC, AML/CFT, suitability, investment-risk and client-onboarding requirements.
- Work closely with compliance and operations to identify, assess and manage regulatory, operational, investment and reputational risks.
- Promote a strong culture of integrity, accountability, prudent risk management and fair dealing.
- Support regulatory submissions and engagement with MAS or other authorities where required.
- Ensure that conflicts of interest are properly identified, disclosed and managed.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure that material matters are escalated promptly to the board and relevant control functions.
Candidate requirements
Essential experience
- At least five years of substantive portfolio-management experience in asset classes and investment strategies relevant to the company’s business.
- Meaningful managerial or supervisory experience relating to portfolio management, investment activities or a regulated financial-services business.
- Relevant experience as a senior relationship manager, private banker, investment adviser, portfolio manager or senior wealth-management professional.
- A credible track record of managing HNW or UHNW client relationships, developing new business and growing assets under management.
- Demonstrated involvement in portfolio construction, investment decision-making, risk management and performance monitoring.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate substantive portfolio-management responsibilities. Experience limited solely to client acquisition, product sales or relationship servicing would not, by itself, be sufficient for this appointment.
Professional and regulatory capabilities
- Strong understanding of global financial markets and multi-asset investment solutions, including equities, fixed income, funds, alternatives, structured products and derivatives, as relevant.
- Sound knowledge of investment governance, portfolio risk, suitability and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Familiarity with Singapore’s regulatory framework for CMS-licensed fund management companies.
- Relevant regulatory qualifications and the ability to meet all applicable requirements for appointment as a director and, where necessary, as an appointed representative.
- Willingness to undergo regulatory, employment, financial standing, reference and fit-and-proper assessments.
- Ability to be based in Singapore and devote sufficient time and attention to the proper discharge of the role.
Personal qualities
- High standards of honesty, integrity and professional conduct.
- Sound commercial and investment judgement.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.
- Ability to balance business development with prudent investment and regulatory decision-making.
- Entrepreneurial and growth-oriented while remaining disciplined about governance and risk.
- Collaborative, accountable and committed to clients’ long-term interests.
