Your tasks

About the role Join a product engineering team building reliable SaaS in the Atlassian and enterprise collaboration space, where quality is shared with engineering - not owned in isolation. As a Senior QA Engineer, you’ll spend most of your time on Playwright automation (UI and API) and on using AI tools day to day to design tests, debug failures, and keep suites maintainable. You’ll drive testing depth - regression, critical paths, and clear risk signals before release - working closely with developers and Product Owners. This is a hands-on IC role with no people management. If you like strong automation, pragmatic AI, and shipping stable releases in a remote-first setup, this role is built for that.

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated UI, API, and integration tests with Playwright using JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.
  • Use AI-assisted tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to speed up test design, refactoring, and failure analysis; always validate output and follow company data-handling guidelines.
  • Plan and execute functional, regression, smoke, and critical-path testing; validate against agreed acceptance criteria and flag quality risks early.
  • Design and maintain test data approaches for your area (fixtures, isolation, environments) so automated suites stay reliable in CI.
  • Contribute to test layering - what to cover at API/component level vs full E2E - and align with engineering on scope and maintainability.
  • Run and maintain automated suites in CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, GitLab CI, Jenkins); improve stability, reporting, and triage of failing builds.
  • Partner in agile ceremonies with engineering and product; document scenarios and defects so issues are resolved quickly.
  • Reduce flaky tests, improve test code structure, and apply the test pyramid and risk-based prioritization in everyday delivery.
  • Test REST/GraphQL APIs, validate contracts and payloads, and verify data with SQL or equivalent when needed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in QA with a strong focus on test automation as an individual contributor.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining tests with Playwright (UI and API) and JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.
  • Daily, practical use of AI-assisted development for QA work and the ability to critically review AI-generated tests.
  • Solid API and integration testing experience (auth, mocking/stubbing, debugging across services).
  • Practical experience with test data and environments for automation (isolation, fixtures, stability in parallel/CI runs).
  • Hands-on CI/CD experience running automated tests in pipelines and working with Docker.
  • Strong testing fundamentals (test pyramid, risk-based testing, agile, defect lifecycle) and experience with Jira or similar.
  • Excellent English (written and verbal) for distributed collaboration.
  • Experience raising quality on long-lived, evolving products, not only greenfield work.
