About the company

Our client, a global biopharmaceutical company in Singapore, is looking for a Senior Lab Systems Engineer to deliver the upgrade of laboratory software and instrument systems in its QC laboratories. You will own the workstream end to end, from feasibility and pilot through method transfer, vendor management, cutover and handover.

Your tasks

This is a hands-on delivery role, not a project management role. You will work at the instrument PC, test and compare methods yourself, and be the main point of contact between the laboratory, QA, the system vendor and management.

  • Own the lab system upgrade workstream end to end: system and method inventory, architecture, feasibility, pilot, phased rollout, cutover and post-go-live support.
  • Plan and schedule all deliverables across the project lifecycle, tracking progress, risks and dependencies.
  • Critically analyse existing methods and configurations in the current system and how they translate to the new platform.
  • Run feasibility tests covering instrument connectivity, method equivalence, reporting and interfaces, including LIMS where applicable.
  • Manage the system vendor on licences, method transfer support, instrument limitations and service scope.
  • Prepare purchase requests, change control records and validation input that meet QA expectations.
  • Brief laboratory analysts on changes, dual-run periods and method equivalence results, and agree downtime windows with the lab to minimise disruption to testing.
  • Deliver a handover pack for each rollout wave, including system descriptions, job aids and open points.
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly to the laboratory, QA, the vendor and management.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Life Sciences or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in laboratory systems, lab automation or computerised systems in a regulated environment.
  • Delivered at least one laboratory or process system migration or upgrade end to end, not only in a support role.
  • Experience working in a GxP or similarly regulated environment, including change control and data integrity.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting software on instrument PCs.
  • Able to explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

Good to have

  • Experience with Metrohm Tiamo and/or OMNIS, or other laboratory instrument software.
  • Knowledge of titration and Karl Fischer (KF) analysis.
  • Experience with LIMS interfaces.
  • Experience with Windows 10/11 instrument PCs.
  • Awareness of computer system validation (CSV) and validation deliverables.
  • Vendor management experience.
