This position is designated as SES, General. USDA structures its SES positions into position levels. This is a position level I with a salary range of $192,332 - $204,121 per year. Exceptions to the salary cap may be considered in certain circumstances. SES employees are also eligible to receive bonuses and performance-based awards. Major duties

  • Provides leadership and oversight for the Wildlife Services National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) and ensures NWRC mission focus on methods development.
  • Develops strategic and operational plans that ensure effective NWRC support for and contributions to Wildlife Services mission, reflecting a high level of awareness of program priorities and goals.
  • Participates as a member of the Wildlife Services Management Team in the formulation and administration of plans, policies and objectives.
  • Leads, through subordinate staff, the development, direction and implementation of laboratory and field research cooperative programs with Federal, Tribal, State, local government officials and other interested groups, organizations and individuals.
  • Provides leadership and direction in evaluating the effectiveness of program operations.
  • Develops and maintains effective relations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversees the formulation of immediate and long-range budgets based on detailed research planning to include past, present and anticipated workload and capabilities.
  • Provides scientific leadership within the areas of evaluation, testing, and development of new technologies/materials to be applied in wildlife damage management programs at the Federal, Tribal, State, and private land owned level.
  • Serves on APHIS and USDA science committees and initiatives concerned with research, scientific integrity, science and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Negotiates with Federal and State officials, industry groups, special interest groups, and individuals in the development, revision, and adoption of agreements to effect cooperative wildlife damage research and management programs nationwide.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION (TQ): In addition to the ECQs, applicants must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they meet the following technical qualification(s).

  1. Describe your individual experience/efforts in facilitating wildlife research leading to applied outcomes that are now being utilized.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic requirements for the General Natural Resources Management and Biological series.. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicants must provide a copy of your transcripts. Failure to provide this information may result in disqualification.
