Senior Cloud Engineer (Financial Industry)

We are partnering with a leading global financial technology organization seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join its Cloud Operations function. This team is responsible for building, automating, and supporting large-scale cloud infrastructure that powers mission-critical platforms within a highly regulated, high-availability environment.

This role focuses on designing, implementing, and operating secure, cloud-native infrastructure solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving automation, enhancing platform reliability, establishing engineering best practices, and leading the delivery of strategic cloud initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and automate globally distributed cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Partner with platform engineering and application development teams to design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions.
• Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes-based platforms and workloads (EKS, GKE, Cluster API), leveraging GitOps methodologies and tools such as Argo CD.
• Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation capabilities.
• Perform system administration activities, including deployments, upgrades, patching, backup, and recovery operations.
• Support production cloud environments through incident response, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and operational excellence initiatives.
• Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to maintaining high platform availability and reliability.
• Lead cloud infrastructure projects from architecture and planning through implementation and operational handover.
• Drive technical discussions, design reviews, and engineering best practices across the organization.
• Establish and evolve infrastructure standards, architecture patterns, and operational processes.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, security, and operations teams to ensure secure, compliant, and scalable platform solutions.
• Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, and support procedures.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to raising the overall technical capability of the team.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on experience working with public cloud platforms, preferably AWS and/or GCP.
• Strong expertise in Kubernetes administration and operations, including EKS, GKE, GitOps, and Argo CD.
• Deep experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation, preferably with Python.
• Strong background supporting containerized applications and Linux-based environments.
• Solid understanding of cloud networking, IAM, observability, and core cloud services such as VPC, EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, and Lambda.
• Experience managing secrets and sensitive configurations using tools such as HashiCorp Vault.
• Proven track record designing, implementing, and operating highly available, fault-tolerant production systems.
• Experience supporting mission-critical environments with operational and on-call responsibilities.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Background

• Experience working within financial services, capital markets, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.
• Exposure to large-scale distributed systems and global cloud infrastructure environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering standards across teams.
