Finance Assistant
About the company
This is an opportunity to join a broad finance role with room to develop, practical support and a clear route to taking on greater responsibility.
Your tasks
An established professional services organisation is seeking a Finance Assistant to become part of a small, collaborative finance function.
The position covers a varied mix of day-to-day finance activity and provides useful experience across both client and operational accounts in a regulated setting. It may suit someone building on previous professional-services experience or an experienced candidate looking for a more supported remit.
You'll work closely with the Accounts Manager, gaining valuable experience and support as you develop your skills. Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining tracker spreadsheets and orderly electronic records
- Preparing scheduled payment runs and handling employee expense claims
- Monitoring the shared finance mailbox and dealing with queries professionally
- Posting and checking purchase invoices after the relevant approvals have been obtained
- Assisting with period-end activity and the financial steps required when matters close
- Recording daily banking activity across client and office accounts
- Helping with credit control and communicating with clients and external suppliers
- Reconciling bank accounts each day
- Reviewing and processing monthly company card transactions
- Responding to internal finance queries and helping with periodic client-balance communications
- Gathering information for internal reporting and supporting occasional finance projects
Requirements
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in staying organised, and likes being involved in different aspects of a business. The nature of the role means you'll regularly switch between different tasks, so being adaptable and able to prioritise effectively will help you thrive.
We're looking for someone who
- Communicates clearly and adjusts their approach to different audiences
- Uses Excel confidently
- Handles sensitive information professionally and with discretion
- Builds constructive working relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers
- Must have previous finance experience within a law firm, including hands-on experience of handling client money
- Manages competing priorities carefully, with strong organisation and attention to detail
- Takes an active interest in learning and professional development
This role is equally well-suited to someone for whom this would be their second law firm experience, or someone stepping back slightly in scope who wants a more supported, progressive environment to grow within.
Nice to have
- Experience of legal-accounting rules, finance systems or workplace AI tools would be useful, but is not required
What we offer
