Projects Technical Architect
The Project Technical Architect leads the detailed technical design, architectural detailing, code compliance, and construction documentation phases of a project. Operating at the intersection of design, engineering, and construction, this role ensures that design concepts are translated into buildable, structurally sound, energy-efficient, and fully coordinated technical drawing packages that meet all local codes and regulatory standards.
- Technical Design & Construction Documentation
Lead the development of detailed architectural drawing packages, including construction details, building envelope/facade systems, wall sections, interior assemblies, and waterproofing systems.
Translate schematic architectural concepts into precise, buildable technical solutions without compromising design intent.
Establish and enforce technical standards, BIM/CAD layering protocols, and graphic presentation quality across project deliverables.
- Code Compliance & Authority Approvals
Review designs against relevant local building codes, zoning bylaws, accessibility standards (e.g., ADA, local regulations), and life safety/fire protection codes (NFPA, IBC, or equivalent).
Prepare, organize, and submit technical documentation packages for authority building permits and regulatory approvals; liaise with municipal reviewers to resolve technical comments.
- Multi-Disciplinary Coordination
Direct multidisciplinary coordination between Architectural, Structural, MEP, Civil, Facade, and Fire Life Safety engineering teams.
- Technical Specifications & Material Selection
Research, select, and specify building materials, products, assemblies, and finishes based on durability, sustainability, cost, and technical performance.
Write or review comprehensive CSI 3-part or Master Format/NBS technical specifications and schedules (door/window, finishes, hardware).
Qualifications & Experience Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture (B.Arch / M.Arch) or Architectural Engineering from an accredited university.
Experience: 7–12+ years of architectural experience, with a heavy emphasis on technical delivery, construction documentation, and site administration.
Proven track record in an Architectural Consultancy or Design-Build firm handling complex mid-to-large-scale projects (commercial, residential, mixed-use, or institutional).
Technical Skills & Software Proficiency Codes & Specs: Deep familiarity with International Building Code (IBC), local authority codes, fire safety codes, ADA/accessibility guidelines, and specification systems (MasterFormat/Speclink/NBS).
Building Science: Strong understanding of building envelopes, waterproofing, curtain wall systems, thermal performance, and sustainable design standards (LEED, BREEAM).
Core Competencies & Soft Skills Rigorous attention to detail and strong technical problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent technical communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, and client representatives.
Leadership skills to mentor junior technical staff and drafts people.
