Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer

R&D is responsible for device development at Ajax, consisting of four departments: System, Device, Automation, and QA.

The Device Department is engaged in the development of security and automation devices. It also sets serious challenges in the following areas:

• Low-Power: devices must operate for as long as possible from standard batteries;
• Cost: a mass-market product must remain within the mid-price segment;
• DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFH (Design for Human): circuitry, housings, and other elements must be easy to replicate in hundreds of thousands of devices during production without loss of quality.

Development is primarily carried out for STM32 (but there are other MCU and SoC), using Embedded C. Strong expertise and talented employees have already been gathered from among Hardware- and Embedded C-engineers, industrial designers, and mechanical designers.

Currently, we are looking for an experienced engineer who is interested in developing in the role of Mechanical Engineer.

Required knowledge and skills: Leadership competencies

• Systems engineering thinking: seeing the product in the context of business and related disciplines.

• People management skills: delegation, task setting, verification, development support.

• Confidence in making technical decisions.

• Initiative and independence: a lead must shape the approach, not wait for instructions.

• Team communication: ability to work with product managers, QA, technologists, and procurement.

• Mentorship: readiness and desire to help less experienced engineers grow.

Design and 3D modeling

• SolidWorks (95% solid, 5% surface modeling), basic knowledge of sheet metal.

• Creation of precise assemblies, mates, tolerance verification, preparation of models for transfer to molding production.

• Ability to break down complex projects into sub-assemblies, work with reference geometry and configurations.

DFM / DFA / manufacturing

• Knowledge of mold operation: opening directions, gate locations, parting lines, risks of short shots/air pockets.

• Optimization of designs for scalability and cost reduction (minimizing parts, reducing weld seams, molding cycle).

• Experience collaborating with factories in Ukraine or China, understanding the mold lifecycle, participation in changes after T1/T2.

• Basics of metalworking technologies: bending, stamping, laser cutting, milling for internal frames and auxiliary elements.

Testing and prototyping

• Manual verification and assembly of prototypes, analysis of critical nodes.

• Detection and elimination of issues with sealing, play, and fitment.

• Ability to use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).

Materials science and standards

• Knowledge of the properties of ABS, PC, PC+ABS, PA+GF, TPE, TPU: shrinkage, impact strength, thermal stability, elasticity.

• Understanding how material behavior changes during production and operation (temperature, moisture, UV).

• Ability to balance price/quality/manufacturability when selecting materials.

Functional elements

• Development of fasteners, latches, guides, rubber seals, TPE/TPU elements, mounting slots.

• Designing interface elements: buttons, indicators, light guides, ports, ventilation holes.

• Understanding sealing methods (IP54–IP67), heat dissipation, and battery compartment mounting.

Documentation and production support

• Generation of a full set of drawings: 2D contours, tolerance tables, BOM, assembly specifications.

• Implementing changes based on prototyping results or production feedback.

• Participation in preparing technical descriptions for QC, assembly instructions, and control of design documentation.

Communication and tools

• Basic English (A2+) for technical documentation and communication with foreign partners.

• Experience working with PDM / ERP systems (preferably SolidWorks PDM).

• Independent search for solutions and analytical thinking: not just "redrawing a part," but finding the right solution.

Tasks: Managing the full design cycle of plastic housings and mechanical assemblies for consumer electronics.

Developing DFM- and DFH-oriented solutions taking mass production into account (injection molding, assembly, sealing, maintainability).

Interacting with hardware-, embedded-engineers, industrial designers, technologists, the quality department, and production.

Building ergonomic, intuitive designs that easily adapt to different operating environments.

Preparing documentation for transfer to production (2D drawings, specifications, technical requirements, 3D models for molds).

Supporting molds and coordinating changes after the first castings (T0–T2), analyzing molding defects.

Participating in testing and feedback from prototypes and production, implementing design changes.

Making engineering decisions and taking responsibility for the product's compliance with expected parameters (assembly, weight, strength, IP protection).

Supporting the product from concept to mass production, including analysis of cost and the impact of design decisions on the cost price.
