In central technology development, we are the competence center for robotics and automation solutions. For all Airbus plants and all final assembly lines, we develop innovative and pioneering robotics solutions for a better, safer, and more competitive future for Airbus and its employees. In this area, we offer the following final thesis.
Title: Analysis and compensation of position errors to increase the accuracy of an industrial robot on a linear axis
Project Description
As part of a "Full Scale" R&T demonstrator, a 12-meter-long linear axis with an industrial robot is being commissioned. The aim of the work is to ensure the position accuracy of the entire system over the entire travel path. To this end, systematic and random position errors will be determined using a laser tracker, and correction algorithms will subsequently be implemented and evaluated via appropriate control interfaces.
Your Location
You will work in the largest production site for civil aircraft in Hamburg. Due to its location on the southern bank of the Elbe, there is the possibility to commute by ferry. In your free time, experience the special flair of Hamburg, where pulsating world city culture meets nautical heritage.

- Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.
Your Tasks and Responsibilities
- Integration of robots and measuring systems on a linear axis
- Integration into the control of the linear axis system
- Validation of the position accuracy of the entire system
- Development of correction algorithms to optimize positioning accuracy
Required Knowledge and Qualifications
- Enrolled full-time student (d/m/w) in the field of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automation, and robotics
- Knowledge of systems such as KUKA (KRL), ABB (RAPID) or FANUC (TP) is desirable
- Confident handling of industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, TCP/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT)
- Experience with measurement technology (laser tracker), as well as analysis of systematic and random errors
- Knowledge of measurement software such as SpatialAnalyzer or PolyWorks for measurement data acquisition
- Sound knowledge in a high-level language (C++ or Python (with libraries like NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) to mathematically model the error compensation
- Experience in the integration and handling of industrial robots is an advantage
- Fluent English skills, German desirable
