A position as "Thermal Engineer" (d/m/w) is to be filled in the "Thermal Engineering and Space Environment Germany" department in Immenstaad.

In this role, you will support thermal engineering, where the role represents a mixture of project management support, thermal technical topics, and thermal modeling.

You will be involved in performing thermal analyses, thermal tests on spacecraft, payloads, instruments, mechanisms, and other space equipment.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Performing thermal analyses for spacecraft, payloads, instruments, and mechanisms
• Performing plausibility checks and manual calculations to validate analysis results
• Supporting the development of a thermal control system, its subsystems, and components
• Simulation and monitoring of thermal tests, such as thermal-vacuum and thermal-balance tests, of satellites and their components
• Knowledge of cost management (e.g., budget, risk, and schedule) for thermal activities
• Application of the software packages SYSTEMA/Thermica and ESATAN TMS
• Documentation of all activities, mathematical models, and analysis and test results
• Contribution to improvements as well as R&D and R&T studies in the field of thermal engineering

Required Knowledge and Qualifications

• University degree (Master/Diploma) in engineering sciences or similar qualification
• Knowledge of conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer processes
• Knowledge in the application of SYSTEMA/Thermica and ESATAN-TMS is necessary
• Knowledge in CFD tools for thermal analyses is an advantage
• Knowledge in the programming languages PYTHON and MATLAB is advantageous
• Knowledge in the design and definition of thermal hardware (Heat Pipes, Thermal Straps, Thermal Switches, Thermal Diodes, Phase Change Materials, etc.)
• Knowledge in the application of design applications (Catia, Autodesk Inventor) is an advantage
• Understanding of thermal material properties
• Understanding of orbital mechanics and the solar system
• Multidisciplinary mindset with the ability to see and consider the "big picture" (system level) and to work with other technical disciplines that do not belong to thermal, such as electrical, mechanics, function, PA, QA, and AIT.
• The ability to quickly change roles and responsibilities in a demanding environment
• A proactive attitude with a high degree of independence
• Ability to work in a diverse and decentralized team environment
• Very good English skills for written and oral communication are required.
• Willingness to travel regularly
