To support the "DHS/ Comms HW & Architects" department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a Data Handling System Engineer (d/m/w).

You will become part of our transnational department, which develops the central On-Board Computers and mass storage of spacecraft. We are responsible for the Data Handling System (DHS) for prestigious missions in the fields of Earth observation, science, exploration, as well as telecommunications and navigation. As an architect, you are the central technical authority that brings electrical hardware, software, and complex protocols together into a functioning overall system.

This position is also possible with reduced weekly working hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Technical Interface & Architecture: You act as the primary contact person for the Chief Engineer, customers, suppliers, and other specialist departments (Software, Payload, Electrical, Mechanics, Thermal) for all On-Board Data Handling (OBDH) subsystem topics.
• Design & Requirements Management: You conduct trade-off studies and define the hardware architecture of the Data Handling System, including data rates, processor speeds, and electrical interfaces.
• Supplier Management: You create specifications for DH equipment, support manufacturing at the supplier (Co-Engineering), and lead design boards as well as acceptance reviews.
• Interface Compatibility: You define the data flows between platform and payload (mass storage, crypto units) as well as housekeeping (TM/TC) and create/manage the corresponding budgets (Bus Traffic, CPU load).
• Verification & Launch: You create test specifications, support the AIT team in system integration, and accompany launch and in-orbit test activities directly on-site or remotely.
• Subsystem Management: You manage the subsystem independently for an OTOCOQ delivery, integration & verification. You support the satellite project in commercial matters through your technical expertise and in time and cost planning.

Required Knowledge and Qualifications

• Completed studies in the field of electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a comparable qualification.
• Sound experience in the architecture of Data Handling hardware subsystems.
• In-depth knowledge of common space standards (e.g., ECSS, CCSDS).
• Many years of professional experience in the field of Data Handling or complex embedded systems.
• Business fluent English skills; German skills are a clear advantage for working at the location.
