The primary purpose of this position is: to provide operational leadership consultation, direct client services, community capacity building, preventive, remedial, and support services aimed at improving and sustaining the psychological health of Air National Guard (ANG) military members and their families.
Major duties
Actively supports the commander's leadership team in addressing the psychological health of their installation. Conducts assessments, routine and crisis evaluations, psycho-diagnostic assessments, provides short-term, evidence-based problem resolution strategies and services. Designs, develops, coordinates, and implements prevention and community outreach and education programs. Responsible for marketing and marketing evaluation activities. Provides professional consultation, advice, education, and training to other military and non-military health care professionals, medical personnel, military commanders/senior leaders, wing personnel and their family members, and community agencies concerning primary and secondary prevention programs. Prepares agenda for meetings, compiles statistical data, and prepares a variety of recurring reports. Develops meeting agendas.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONT- This position may be identified as having "regular contact with children," requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve "after hours" care or work in addition to regular duty hours In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, Social Work Series 0185 to include Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR). BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: Social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes professional knowledge of social work practices, principles, and theories; Knowledge of laws, regulations, executive orders, issues, etc. relating to victim advocacy, sexual assault and interpersonal violence, and behavioral health support and services; Knowledge of professional evidence-based treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders to plan and provide short-term problem resolution to clients or refer them for clinical treatment; Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of select psychological and psycho-social measures to properly assess patient's and family's needs and capabilities, along with a sophisticated understanding of behavioral risk management and ability to engage appropriate protections as needed when risk of harm to self or others is present. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of professional social work practices, principles, theories, and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in clinical and non-clinical settings 2. Knowledge of professional evidence-based treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders to plan and provide short-term problem resolution to clients or refer them for clinical treatment. 3. Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of select psychological and psycho-social measures to properly assess patient's and family's needs and capabilities, along with a sophisticated understanding of behavioral risk management and ability to engage appropriate protections as needed when risk of harm to self or others is present. 4. Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders to evaluate psychiatric disorders and apply professional diagnostic skills; in addition, knowledge of complex support systems, such as child and family prevention outreach services, professional organizations, and their management and administration; how they affect adult, child, and family welfare; the multiple uses of such systems, professionals and organizations to deliver services; and psychological health dynamics/indicators, prevention theories, and practices. 5. Skill in conducting needs assessment interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues; providing professional assistance to clients/customers; determining appropriate referral services/opinions; and planning and implementing professional community organization strategies and initiatives. 6. Ability to apply professional community organization skills related to the formulating of needs assessments, development, and marketing of prevention programs; and apply professional diagnostic skills to individuals, families, and small groups; provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders, work well with others in a team approach, and facilitate referrals to community-, county-, or state-based human service agencies as needed (e.g., Emergency Department, Protective Services, Security Forces, and financial aid organizations); and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to include maintaining proper records to document services provided, including patient care, follow up, and/or referral. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
