Supervisory Police Officer-Direct Hire Authority

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor and/or flight chief, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Security Forces Branch.
Major duties
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of a Security Forces Flight, ensuring that personnel comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties within the military installation. Manages Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) Training Program for Police Officers.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: exhibit a deep understanding of police procedures and operating methods to independently execute a full range of activities-including protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch-alongside specialized knowledge of aerial surveillance principles to ensure officers can effectively identify SUAS systems.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security regulations (AF, Federal, and DoD), including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security protocols. A thorough understanding of safety, security, and EEO practices is essential. This candidate will demonstrate proficiency in police officer procedures and operating methods, enabling independent execution of duties related to protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization, exercising sound supervisory personnel management responsibilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
- Knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security AF, Federal and DoD rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security.
- Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response and dispatch.
- Ability to operate the Incident Management System and the Security Force Management Information System.
- Ability to plan, organizes, and directs the functions and staff of an organization.
- Knowledge of aerial surveillance principles in order to ensure police officers can identify SUAS systems.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
