Structural MTO Engineer (QS)
Job description Prepare structural Material Take-Offs (MTO) for FPSO Topsides modules and offshore structures under the direction and guidance of the Principal Engineer (Structural Material Take-off), covering special, primary, secondary, tertiary and outfitting steel including gratings, handrails, stairs, ladders, deck plates, supports and miscellaneous structural items.
Extract and compile quantities from AVEVA E3D models, structural drawings, standard details, vendor information and engineering documents. Prepare manual structural material quantity estimates for unmodelled items using approved methods, calculations and project allowances.
Check material descriptions, profiles, dimensions, quantities, unit weights, material grades, structural categories, paint areas, allowances, contingencies and wastage factors in accordance with project specifications and MTO procedures.
Coordinate with structural engineers and designers to identify omissions or discrepancies between the 3D model, drawings and MTO database, and implement agreed corrections.
Prepare supporting structural bulk quantities for material requisitions, bid enquiries and supplier clarifications, subject to review by the Principal Engineer.
Assist with reconciliation of engineering MTOs against purchase orders, supplier quantities, fabrication requirements, construction quantities, surplus materials and as-built information.
Maintain traceable MTO records, including source models or drawings, revision status, assumptions, exclusions, allowances and quantity changes between revisions.
Follow company work processes, project procedures, structural material specifications, MTO requirements and quality policies applicable to the assigned work.
Develop competence in structural MTO methods, Microsoft Excel based data handling and 3D model quantity extraction.
Report to and support supervisor on assigned projects
Work experience requirements: A total of 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in structural material take-off, quantity estimation, within a multi-discipline engineering environment for oil and gas projects.
A minimum of 1 year of experience on upstream offshore oil and gas projects involving structural MTO preparation for FPSO topsides modules during FEED, basic engineering or detailed engineering
Experience in extracting quantities from 3D models and structural drawings
Awareness of applicable structural material standards for offshore structures is preferred.
Experience in structural bulk procurement engineering activities will be an advantage.
Qualifications: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Marine Engineering, or an equivalent relevant engineering qualification.
Other skills: Basic knowledge of AVEVA E3D and Navisworks is required, including model navigation, filtering, and attribute review for structural quantity extraction.
Good Microsoft Excel skills are required, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, filtering, quantity reconciliation and preparation of MTO reports.
Good understanding of structural steel products, material grades, unit-weight calculations, surface-area calculations, allowances, wastage and MTO checking principles are required.
Experience using structured MTO spreadsheets or databases is required.
Exposure to VBA, Power Query, Power BI or other reporting tools, structural steel databases, will be an added advantage.
