Assistant Management Accountant

We are currently working with a fast-growing and highly successful business based just outside Colchester that is looking to add a talented individual to its Accounts Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to develop their management accounting skills whilst continuing to develop.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on role where you will take full ownership accounts, ensuring accurate and timely reporting each month. The successful candidate will be highly organised, analytical, detail-focused, and confident working independently. You'll enjoy working with data, love a good spreadsheet, and thrive on meeting deadlines while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing management accounts from start to finish
- Bank reconciliations
- Prepayments and accruals
- Manual journal preparation
- Payroll reconciliations
- Intercompany account reconciliations
- Fixed asset register maintenance
- Reviewing nominal ledger activity and departmental reporting
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations with supporting audit evidence
- Producing management accounts with meaningful commentary
- Group reporting using client-specific consolidation software
- Producing reports for SOX compliance
- Assisting with audit queries
- Meeting month-end reporting deadlines
Skills & Experience Required
- A minimum of 2 years' finance experience
- AAT Level 4 qualified, CIMA studying, or ACCA part-qualified
- Previous experience preparing management accounts
- Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience
- Excellent working knowledge of Xero
- Microsoft Dynamics experience would be advantageous
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas and data analysis
- Understanding of international transactions and multi-currency accounting
- Knowledge of intercompany accounting and group structures
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of workloads
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Positive, proactive, can-do attitude
- Excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues
