Light Designer – vehicle lighting

Shape the future of light experiences in and on vehicles – from early concepts and simulation to prototypes and production-ready solutions.

Do you want to create light experiences that unite design, technology, safety, and emotion? In this role, you will develop future lighting concepts for vehicles, from the initial idea to prototype and feasible solution.

About the role

• You will be part of a cross-functional design and innovation context within the automotive industry.
• The role covers both interior and exterior vehicle lighting.
• You will collaborate closely with designers, UX specialists, material experts, and engineers.

What you will do

• Develop light concepts for ambient, functional, and communicative lighting.
• Integrate light solutions into vehicle forms, surfaces, seams, and materials.
• Evaluate light effects, integration, and feasibility using visualization, simulation, and VR.
• Build and validate prototypes together with internal teams and external suppliers.
• Present design intention and concepts to relevant stakeholders.

We are looking for someone who has

• A university degree in industrial, product, transport, interaction, or light design, or equivalent.
• At least five years of experience in light design within the automotive industry or related fields.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating the development of light concepts and design solutions.
• The ability to translate concepts into technically and manufacturability feasible solutions.
• Practical experience in prototype development as well as a basic understanding of electronics and electricity.

Technology & Tools

• Tools for light design and visualization.
• Light simulation and VR for concept validation.
• Rapid prototyping.
• Knowledge of regulations and limitations for vehicle lighting is a merit.

Practical information

• Location: Göteborg.
• Work method: Hybrid, with the office as the primary workplace and some possibility for remote work.
• Language: English, fluent in speaking and writing.
