Job Description
AFRY Advanced Automation in Borlänge is part of AFRY's commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable automation solutions to industry, with a particular focus on Siemens SIMATIC PCS7. We work closely with our customers to create efficient, safe, and future-proof systems that contribute to increased productivity and reduced environmental impact.
Our team consists of dedicated specialists in automation, electrical design, mechanical design, and project management. Together, we work with advanced PCS7-based solutions, where competence development and collaboration are central.
We are looking for an automation engineer who wants to help drive the development of advanced automation solutions with a focus on PCS7 within our projects.
Your area of responsibility is to ensure the automation needs in ongoing assignments, where you sometimes follow the entire project process – from customer idea and pre-sales support to commissioned plant – and sometimes contribute specialist expertise in Siemens PCS7 in specific parts of projects.
You will also work as a sub-project manager, which involves responsibility for planning, coordination, and follow-up of the automation part in our projects, with particular responsibility for deliveries linked to PCS7 solutions. The work takes place both locally from our office in Borlänge and in collaboration with the rest of AFRY's organization. A large part of our projects are within the steel and energy sectors, where PCS7 is a central platform.
The work weeks are varied. Some projects last for longer periods and involve continuity in work with PCS7 systems, while other weeks consist of shorter interventions such as optimization, troubleshooting, or upgrades in various plants. You will work closely with our automation team in Borlänge, where knowledge exchange regarding PCS7 is a central part of everyday life.
We expect you to take a driving role in our automation assignments, with a high level of responsibility and good collaborative skills. The role also involves acting as a mentor for junior colleagues within PCS7 and contributing to the team's technical development.
At AFRY, there is a strong network of competence forums that connect our PCS7 specialists throughout the organization. Here, you will have the opportunity to build relationships, share knowledge, and develop within new technical areas linked to the Siemens platform. System development is progressing rapidly, and our customers' PCS7 environments will continuously need to be upgraded and further developed. You therefore need to be open to learning new technologies and versions within the PCS7 ecosystem. The role is not security cleared at present, but may involve security-cleared assignments in the future.
Qualifications
In this role, it is important that you have a strong sense of planning and structure. You work methodically and are accustomed to handling complex system environments, for example Siemens PCS7, where you break down tasks into clear steps and ensure quality in delivery. Accuracy and attention to detail are a natural part of your way of working.
We also value integrity. You put the team's and organization's goals first and always act professionally, especially in deliveries where PCS7 is business-critical for the customer's operations.
Finally, communication is a key competence. You express yourself openly and honestly, listen to others' perspectives, and create dialogue – both internally and in customer collaborations where you often act as a technical expert within PCS7.
Requirements
Relevant professional experience in industrial automation with a clear focus on Siemens SIMATIC PCS7 Relevant formal education in automation or equivalent practical experience Good system knowledge in PCS7 (design, programming, commissioning) Language skills: Swedish and English in speech and writing

Engineering education in electrical/automation with an industrial focus Experience working in project form, preferably in a leading role within automation projects based on PCS7 Experience with upgrades and migrations of PCS7 systems Experience acting as a lead engineer and supporting junior colleagues Experience with integration of PCS7 towards drive systems or other industrial systems Experience from projects within the steel, metal, or energy sectors
