Entry-Level Structural Steel Estimator / Takeoff Trainee

ACE Fabricators, Inc. is looking for an entry-level Structural Steel Estimator / Takeoff Trainee . This position is intended for someone who is naturally strong in math, computers, measurements, and analytical problem-solving. We will teach structural steel estimating. We are looking for candidates who already have the basic math, computer, accuracy, and problem-solving skills needed to learn it. No previous structural steel estimating experience is required. What You Will Learn You will be trained to: Read architectural and structural construction drawings Locate dimensions, elevations, details, and structural members on plans Perform material takeoffs for structural steel projects Identify and quantify beams, columns, angles, plates, and other structural steel items Enter and organize takeoff information using computer software Review drawings carefully for missing or conflicting information Assist our estimating team in preparing accurate project quantities Who We Are Looking For Candidates should: Have strong math skills , including fractions, decimals, basic geometry, and measurement Be very comfortable using computers Be able to learn new software quickly Have excellent attention to detail Be comfortable working with measurements and dimensions Be able to work independently on detailed, computer-based assignments Enjoy numbers, calculations, and problem-solving Be willing to learn construction drawings and structural steel terminology Be dependable, organized, and accurate Helpful backgrounds may include: Engineering or engineering technology Drafting or CAD Construction technology Mathematics Architecture Manufacturing Construction estimating Blueprint or plan reading Technical or vocational programs A college degree is not required. Important Information About the Position This is not a field, warehouse, fabrication-shop, general labor, sales, or customer-service position. The majority of the work is performed at a computer reviewing construction drawings, measurements, and quantities.
