Job Summary
The Applications Manager leads the translation of customer requirements into reliable application solutions, directs technical execution from solution definition to production roll-out, and builds a high-performing applications team collaborating across multiple functions.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the Applications Engineering team by planning resources, allocating work, and driving capability development and succession planning
- Define functional priorities, technical standards, operating processes, and measurable objectives aligned with business and customer needs
- Foster a technical culture focused on customer value, disciplined execution, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
- Partner with customers to analyze test requirements, application challenges, and production goals, translating them into practical technical solutions
- Lead technical reviews, solution scoping, feasibility assessments, demonstrations, evaluations, and provide technical input for quotations and statements of work
- Serve as senior technical escalation point for complex customer and field issues, ensuring ownership, timely communication, and effective resolution
- Oversee application solution development across ABI, SLT, and ATE platforms, including board design, test-program development, system integration, validation, and optimization
- Direct solution release, factory and site acceptance, customer qualification, production roll-out, and sustaining support
- Ensure application deliverables are robust, documented, traceable, and compliant with customer specifications and AEM quality and safety standards
- Plan and manage multiple customer and development projects by defining scope, schedules, milestones, resources, risks, budgets, and status reporting
- Balance customer commitments and business priorities to ensure timely, high-quality delivery
- Monitor project and application performance, identify delivery risks early, and drive corrective actions with cross-functional stakeholders
- Collaborate with Hardware, Software, Firmware, Core Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Field Service, Sales, and Program Management teams to achieve project and customer objectives
- Coordinate with AEM Engineering and Production Centres to resolve technical and execution issues and ensure smooth transfer into production and customer environments
- Share best practices, lessons learned, reusable methods, and technical knowledge across regional and global teams
- Establish and improve application engineering processes, design and test methods, documentation standards, tools, and technical governance
- Drive root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and improvements in system performance, reliability, test coverage, yield, cycle time, and customer experience
- Develop training materials and conduct technical training for Applications, Field Service, and customer teams as needed
Required competencies and certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in semiconductor test, ATE, instrumentation, application engineering, or test development, including at least 5 years in a technical leadership or people-management role
- Strong understanding of analogue and digital electronics, metrology, semiconductor test processes, system integration, and test methodology
- Proven experience leading customer-facing technical engagements, complex issue resolution, product qualification, deployment, and production ramp activities
- Strong project-management skills covering scope, resources, budget, risk, schedule, reporting, and stakeholder alignment
- Effective leadership, coaching, influencing, communication, and presentation skills in a global, cross-functional environment
- Fluent written and spoken English to communicate effectively with global teams and customers
- Willingness to travel internationally and support customer activities outside normal working hours when business needs require
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Hands-on experience with application boards, test programmes, instrumentation, fixtures, handlers, DUT interfaces, and hardware-software integration
- Additional regional language capability to support communication with regional customers and teams
