Political Affairs Secretary M/F/X
Under the general direction and supervision of the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the job holder assists in the implementation of the Representation's diplomatic policy, public relations, and communication. He/She ensures political, institutional, and media monitoring, while serving as a point of contact for the local Tibetan community.
He/She contributes to the efficiency of the Tibet Office by ensuring good management of information flows, as well as compliance with set deadlines and commitments made. As a point of contact in the office with headquarters as well as external visitors to the organization, the job holder communicates, on behalf of the Tibet Office, with high-ranking officials, experts, and other executives of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Main Missions
- Diplomatic and Institutional Assistance
- High-level support: Assist the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in her daily duties and official travels.
- Parliamentary and governmental relations: Participate in meetings with national parliaments, ministries, and NGOs. Take notes and ensure rigorous follow-up on decided actions.
- Political networking: Maintain close personal contacts with deputies' staff, political advisors, and government officials.
- Analysis, Writing and Reporting
- Institutional reports: Draft the Office's quarterly and annual activity reports in Tibetan and formally submit them to the headquarters based in Dharamsala, India.
- Briefing notes: Prepare updated briefing notes on the political, human, and cultural situation in Tibet, and distribute them to governments and parliamentarians.
- Media, Communication and Monitoring
- Press relations: Develop and maintain a regular network of contacts with journalists and newsrooms.
- Media monitoring: Follow news and reports on Tibet.
- Right of reply: Draft and publish rectifications, press releases, or comments via official mail addressed to newsrooms in case of erroneous information.
- Web communication: Draft reports in English and Tibetan of events organized by the Tibet Office for publication on the official website.
- Consular and Community Affairs
- Community support: Process requests and issue official certificates to members of the Tibetan community.
- Good knowledge of the functioning of the Central Tibetan Administration
- Adherence to the values of the Central Tibetan Administration
- Respect for the duty of reserve and the principle of professional discretion
- Perfect mastery of Tibetan, oral and written, in addition to English
The contract duration is one year, renewable, full-time at a rate of 38 hours per week.
