Welfare Assistant

Role Information

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid to pupils, staff and visitors, including responding to medical emergencies
• Manage the welfare room and support sick, injured or distressed pupils
• Record accidents and medical incidents using Medical Tracker
• Maintain medical records, care plans and consent documentation
• Manage pupil medication, inhalers, EpiPens and expiry dates
• Liaise with parents, healthcare professionals and school staff
• Coordinate immunisations, vaccinations and health checks
• Maintain first-aid supplies, equipment and school first-aid kits
• Prepare medical information and resources for school trips
• Report safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures
• Support the school office and reception team when required

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Welfare Assistant or in a similar medical, pastoral or school-based role
• A current Paediatric First Aid Training and Certificate
• A caring, empathetic and approachable manner
• Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills
• Ability to remain calm when dealing with illness, injury or emergencies
• A strong understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
